“Never Ending Story” Released a Year Ago Today!
Today is the one year anniversary of John Anthony’s #NeverEndingStory.
“Never Ending Story”, or #NES, is John Anthony’s seventh studio album and was released one year ago today — May 10, 2024. The album compiled of 21 songs, with several features from independent artists such as Amiccella, Solowokee, Kirk Jr, Greg Dos, Syhirkhai, Larry Bellyfate, Cihtym, along with fellow Villainous Records artists J Mont and Frizz. “Turn Loose” was the albums one and only pre-released single, however, the album’s stand out track “Motions” became an instant fan favorite.
The album was John Anthony’s first all-trap album and was met with mixed reviews upon its first release by music reviewers and audiences. Its mainstream style fit well with today’s hip hop genre, however, many viewed the album as ‘lazy’, compared to his previous album from 2023 “Success Story”, which was filled with lyrical punchlines and metaphorical lyrics over boom-bap beats and samples. While others praised the album as ‘a fresh sound’ to John Anthony’s catalog.
A complete one-eighty turn with reviews, #NES still gained major success through sales and streams. Its first month, the album received over 10,000 streams on all major platforms. Currently, the album has over 33,000 streams on Spotify, making it the 4th most stream John Anthony album on Spotify, behind #BadGuyChronicles, #SuccessStory & #Villaination!. Overall, the album has sold over 160 copies and has tallied over 71,000 streams worldwide.
